AND if so, to whom.
I can tell you now that I would not give valentines, but would expect at least 12. I was a child who learned to give valentines as insurance to receive them - telling i know

Everyday: Cleveland Indians T-shirt, backwards cap with my hair pulled through the adjuster part, light up tennis shoes, and either really dirty jeans or a pair of really ugly (plaid purple?) cotton pants.
Dress-Up: Flower tie or Plaid Bow-tie, Leiderhosen outfit from my Great Grandma
Halloween: The Hulk or Thor
Valentines: Heck yes I would, and they would be sappy and sentimental and really overly dramatic like the ones I wrote to girls I liked when I was under ten.
To Whom: They did go to 1) Danielle , who in first grade I wrote about as my girlfriend in a journal, which was a total lie. I said we'd held hands and even kissed, but she hardly ever said a word to me. She had a twin, too. Both were cute.
2) Ashley, as she was my first real girlfriend (second grade). We talked on the phone til late and then went to the zoo one time. She broke up with me without warning, and had a posse of girls tell me during 1st period. That sucked. 3) Maria, who was in my communion class and I loved forever. Wrote her a Valentine that said "Happy Valentine's day. PS. I like you. Do you like me? PPS. Don't show this to your friends. All our chairs were facing the walls, and the boxes for our cards were strapped to the back, so we ran around the open room giving everyone their cards. Her seat was behind me. I heard a lot of giggling as I was opening mine, still facing the wall, and turned around to see her friends around her desk, all laughing and pointing. I went home and cried.
1. i had a sweatsuit that was a weird minty blue/green and black that had clocks and numbers all over it, as if my sweatsuit was representing a time vortex. one leg of the sweatpants was green/blue, the other black. the sweatshirt also had alternating colors on the sleeves and body. it was incredible. so i'd wear that sweatsuit the most, but almost any sweatsuit or tshirt/sweatshirt and leggings/spandex shorts combo would do. scruncy socks with diadora or lacy keds tennis shoes to top off the look.
2. black and pink polka dotted dress with poofy skirt and matching scrunchy and spandex shorts to go underneath. that or any item from the "dress up box" which mostly consisted of my mom's old saucy nightgowns and my aunt jennifer's old costumes from when she was a competitive baton twirler.
3. i was miss piggy a few years in a row. i also had an affinity for cheap brightly colored wigs that looked like confetti, crazy witchy fingernails, and an enormous witch hat with purple bats on it. i wore that get-up all the time. with the twirler's outfits.
4. i always gave valentines
5. i gave them to everyone because i was too scared that my crushes would be revealed by only giving valentines to them. i did, however, sort through my cartons of valentines, pick out the "best" ones and give them to the boys i liked best. i'd sign my name extra awesomely and sometimes put a heart on it. Tyler Cox always got an extra special Valentine - he was super cute and also had an affinity for sweatsuits.
Everyday:an oversized black t-shirt with day-glow flowers in hot pink and lime green with matching spandex...one leg being pink, the other green. bare feet
Dress up:I had this grey dress with lacy frills under the skirt and a white apron that tied in a huge bow in the back. I wore it in kindergarten and im quite sure it is to date the girliest thing I have ever owned. I would wear this with my mothers navey blue heels.
Halloween: I have gone as one of two things for 25 years:a cat/catwoman (most people could not tell the difference between these costumes as there was no noticeable difference) or a rock star...seeing as I went as a rockstar last year, I suppose a cat. My face paint would be complete with tiger stripes and contouring that I learned from my halloween costume book that I bought from the book mobile. I would still wear my mothers heels because catwoman always wears heels.
Valentines: I always gave Valentines and ached at the thought of recieving a "secret admirer" valentine. I finally recieved one in third grade from a boy with bright red hair named Jonathan. Because of the crush I had harbored since the second grade, I felt the best way to respond was to blush like crazy, crumple the thing into a ball and throw in dramically into the garbage.
To Whom: Everyone. Even people I dont like. I am deathly afraid of hurting someones feelings by leaving them out. Being the odd man out is a repeating theme in my life and I hate the idea of placing someone in that role. But like Christi, the best ones will be set aside for my best friends and the boys I like. The messages would be customized,spell checked and written in special colored ink. This would be very different from the guilt valentines which would read something like " happy Valuntines day. Kate" in smudged blue ink.
Everyday: i have this vivid memory of choosing my own outfit one day when i was about five-years-old. i had a rainbow brite-themed bedroom at the time, and this probably influenced my clothing decision. i recall delicately laying out on my rainbow-brite bed comforter a pair of snowpants (or some pants of equally impractical texture, like lycra)--and, inevitably, a rainbow-striped shirt, the rest of which was navy blue. i was quite excited to have created my own ensemble. i remember calling my mom into the rainbow-brite themed bedroom to ask her opnion, certain of how thrilled she be with my inrodinately good taste for a 5-year-old. My mother then proceeded to laugh at me and my hideous fashion sense and put these clothing items back into the drawers where they belonged.
Dress-Up:i still feel like i'm playing it, riding on the subway every day in my all-black stupid women's dress suits. sad how playing dress-up gets way lamer as we get older.
Halloween: my God, my Wizard of Oz Dorothy and Snow White costumes were the shit. Those little size-2 ruby slippers were hardcore. And those blue Snow White sleeves wiht the inlaid red slivers were genuinely fairytale in their poofiness. Okay--so my mother was badass at sewing Halloween costumes. This compensated for her mocking my clothes every other day of the year.
Valentines: it was 1993, and i had found a lisa frank valentine kit that came with, like, 4 crappy markers and all uncolored valentines cards. i decided i would only color the cards of the people i actually liked--which did me no good ultimately because they certainly did not catch on to my brilliant hidden agenda.
To Whom: oh jack delaporte, you got the lias frank "you mean the world to me" card--which featured a giant pand hugging a globe. oh jack, jack--why did you have to move to arizona..or new mexico...or was it actually mexico? as you can tell, i've never fully recovered from that heartbreak. such let-downs are why lisa frank is now out of business.
1. If it were up to me, I would spend each and every day in my birthday suit. Which truthfully I do anyway.
2. If I am spending each day in the nude then any occassion inovolving another person having contact with me qualifies as a "special occassion" and for these inconvenient, annoying times I would, regretfully, wear clothes. Probably shorts and a sweatshirt. No underwear because I am just taking everything off again as soon as I get home, so what's the point?
3. I would want to give valentines but probably would not be allowed since I'd be the creepy naked kid in class.
4. I would want to give them to all the hot, athletic girls in class which would just freak them out even more since I'd be naked and not a boy. I always give (yes, present tense) them to my friends. In high school margaux and I got each other the same Simpsons valentines that said I choo-choo-choose you with a picture of a train on the front. I would also give them to all the ugly and pathetic kids in class because, being weird and an outcast myself, I would identify with them. Like this one kid in high school, he was super shy and never talked. He was in science with Margaux and I and he wrote Margaux a note that said "will you go out with me? circle yes or no" and Margaux thought he was kidding because who does that when they are 15 and so she wrote him a note back that said I HATE YOU. Except for he was serious and never talked to us again. I would give him a valentine....and it would say "I hate you, do you hate me too? circle yes or no."
In short, it's a good thing I had parents.
